Inspirational, intergenerational, and fantastically inappropriate: Casting Off is circus like you’ve never seen before. This trio of Australian women creates a conversation between three different generations, all while tumbling, balancing, and diving for your entertainment. A comedy show and an arthouse circus event rolled into one, this is a funny and heartfelt performance that will make you laugh, cry, and gasp at these women’s death-defying tricks. “Cast off” your stereotypes and throw away your old ideas about circus - this is a refreshing and joyful ride starring three powerhouse women. “Casting Off is a joy: these three wonderful women have knitted together a truly extraordinary piece of feisty feminist circus that is fabulously funny to boot” (TotalTheatre.org.uk).
Casting Off is work by A Good Catch art house circus company, founded by the same trio who perform it: Debra Batton, Sharon Gruenert, and Spenser Inwood. Their goal is to create circus from an intergenerational, feminist perspective, with “considerable gumption, outstanding skill, and a truckload of humour.” Founded in 2017, the company aims to engage, delight, and occasionally provoke audiences.
